Famine and Pestilence

The Third Seal – The Black Horseman Having struggled with the understanding of the second seal and the Ezekiel 38-39 war, we now come to the third seal, which is much easier to understand. Revelation 6:5-6: 5 And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand. 6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.   The black horseman represents famine. Food is in such short supply that it is measured out on the scales. A penny, or denarius in other translations, was the daily wage for a laborer in Biblical times. During this period the food shortage will be so severe that it will take a days wages to buy enough flour to make a loaf of bread. It is also interesting to note that the four foods mentioned – wheat, barley, oil (olives) and wine (grapes) are all wind pollinated. All the fruits and vegetables which are pollinated by bees are missing. Do the bees die out as a result of the pollution from the nuclear war? We are already seeing a reduction in bee populations due to colony collapse disease. In Hebrew the word for bee is devorah, the same as the name of the prophetess Deborah. She gave a message of rebuke to the men of...

The Beginning of Sorrows – The Second Seal

The Gog Magog war of Ezekiel 38 and 39 begins with the opening of the Second Seal. The key players are Gog, Magog (Kazakhstan – Afghanistan), Rosh (Russia), Meshech + Tubal (Turkey), Togarmah (Armenians), Persia (Iran), Cush (Ethiopia), Put (Libya) and Gomer (Balkans). This is the ring of nations outside the group who were defeated by Israel in the Psalm 83 war. Their declared motive is not to destroy Israel but rather to take plunder. In Ezekiel 38:13 the People of Dedan, Sheba and the merchants of Tarshish are mentioned as asking whether they have come to take spoil. I believe that this is correctly interpreted that the Sunni Muslims (Dedan and Sheba), weakened after the Psalm 83 war, and the American / British people (the merchants of Tarshish) make weak political protests in the UN but abandon Israel to her fate. After this final display of weakness by America, Russia feels empowered to launch a pre-emptive EMP / nuclear strike against America to clear the way for the invasion of Israel and the Arabian Peninsula. This is the final manifestation of the king of the North pushing against the king of the South In verses 18-19 the wrath of YHWH is roused against those who trample Israel and this starts with a great earthquake in Israel. This equates to the 6th seal of Revelation which is the first time an earthquake is mentioned in the Revelation narrative. Ultimately YHWH fights against this army that tramples Israel and destroys them on the hills of Israel. In Chapter 19:6 the army of Gog is destroyed by fire as are “those...

The Beginning of Sorrows – Deception and the First Seal

This week we’re studying the first part of the end time sequence – The Beginning of Sorrows. There are 5 key phases to this period: The Deception The First Seal The Second Seal The Third Seal The Fourth Seal Let’s review what we’ve discovered this week.   The Deception Matthew 24:4-5 states, “4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. 5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many”. The deception we are talking about is a religious deception. This started during the first century with corruption of the message Jesus gave during His earthly ministry. It continues today with mainstream churches completely ignoring the literal, explicit word of God and abandoning the Apostles doctrine. This deception will continue to grow worse and worse as we approach the return of Messiah. Revelation 6:9 tells us “And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him”. The prophet Isaiah foretold of the final state of this deception, in chapter 5 verses 20-21, “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! 21 Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!” Recent events in the Supreme Court of America clearly demonstrate how far this level of deception has already come.   The First Seal Revelation 6:2-3, “And I...

Do you really understand end time prophecy?

Studying end time prophecy can be a daunting task! The book of Revelation can be particularly challenging with the time range starting with the birth of Messiah and finishing 1,000 years after His return. The inset chapters interrupt the flow of the narrative and the symbolism of the vision leave many people confused. However, there is one absolutely invaluable piece of information when studying the end time countdown. This is the relationship between the 7 seals, the 7 trumpets and the 7 bowls of wrath. The 7 trumpets are the result of opening the 7th seal and the 7 bowls of wrath are poured out after the 7th trumpet announces the wrath of God on the world. Putting these statements together we see a linear timeline – 7 seals are opened, then 7 trumpets are sounded then 7 bowls of wrath are poured out. Each series of 7 events are recorded as being completed in order. So now we have a linear sequence we can use to form the backbone of our prophetic explorations. Matthew 24 is effectively the executive summary of the end times. Our Messiah breaks this narrative down into three main time periods – the beginning of sorrows, the tribulation and the coming of the Son of man. These three periods overlay the backbone of Revelation as follows: The beginning of sorrows is from the 1st Century to the 4th seal The tribulation is from the 5th seal to the 7th trumpet The coming of the Son of man is from the 7th trumpet to the 7th bowl of wrath Now we have a basis for starting...
