The Gog Magog war of Ezekiel 38 and 39 begins with the opening of the Second Seal.
The key players are Gog, Magog (Kazakhstan – Afghanistan), Rosh (Russia), Meshech + Tubal (Turkey), Togarmah (Armenians), Persia (Iran), Cush (Ethiopia), Put (Libya) and Gomer (Balkans). This is the ring of nations outside the group who were defeated by Israel in the Psalm 83 war.
Their declared motive is not to destroy Israel but rather to take plunder.
In Ezekiel 38:13 the People of Dedan, Sheba and the merchants of Tarshish are mentioned as asking whether they have come to take spoil. I believe that this is correctly interpreted that the Sunni Muslims (Dedan and Sheba), weakened after the Psalm 83 war, and the American / British people (the merchants of Tarshish) make weak political protests in the UN but abandon Israel to her fate.
After this final display of weakness by America, Russia feels empowered to launch a pre-emptive EMP / nuclear strike against America to clear the way for the invasion of Israel and the Arabian Peninsula. This is the final manifestation of the king of the North pushing against the king of the South
In verses 18-19 the wrath of YHWH is roused against those who trample Israel and this starts with a great earthquake in Israel. This equates to the 6th seal of Revelation which is the first time an earthquake is mentioned in the Revelation narrative. Ultimately YHWH fights against this army that tramples Israel and destroys them on the hills of Israel.
In Chapter 19:6 the army of Gog is destroyed by fire as are “those who dwell carelessly in the isles” this could be referring to Britain who abandoned both Israel and America during the end times.
In chapter 39:19 YHWH states “It is done”, this phrase is repeated in Revelation 6:17 when the 7th bowl of wrath is poured out. The vengeance of YHWH is poured out on this gentile occupying army for a whole year, the day of wrath of YHWH. The day of wrath cannot be one 24 hour period, it must be a prophetic day for a year principle as the 5th trumpet plague lasts 5 months.
