13 And the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God, 14 Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates. 15 And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men. 16 And the number of the army of the horsemen were two hundred thousand thousand: and I heard the number of them. 17 And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates of fire, and of jacinth, and brimstone: and the heads of the horses were as the heads of lions; and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and brimstone. 18 By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths. 19 For their power is in their mouth, and in their tails: for their tails were like unto serpents, and had heads, and with them they do hurt.
20 And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk: 21 Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.
The imagery used to describe the 6th trumpet plague is similar to that of the 5th trumpet plague. This could cause many to believe that this is a continuation of the demonic plague which lasted for 5 months. The demonic horde had a king over them but was not called an army. Here the 200,000,000 horseman is an army which will engage in a war leaving 1/3 of the population of the world dead.
There are only 2 countries in the world with the population and economic might to field a 200 million man army, China and India. India has a military force of 3.5 million with an additional 489.5 million people fit for service. There is no obvious reference in end time scripture regarding India. This may be because she is heavily engaged in a regional nuclear conflict with her arch rival Pakistan.
China has an military force (active and reserve of 4.6 million) and an additional 618.5 million people available for service. This compares to America’s military is 2.5 million with only 120 million fit for service. If we think about mobilizing a 200,000,000 man army, the logistical difficulties are enormous. To put this number in perspective, on the first day of the D-Day landings around 150,000 allied soldiers landed in France. After a month this number had risen to 1,000,000.
40 “At the time of the end the king of the South shall attack him; and the king of the North shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter the countries, overwhelm them, and pass through. 41 He shall also enter the Glorious Land, and many countries shall be overthrown; but these shall escape from his hand: Edom, Moab, and the prominent people of Ammon. 42 He shall stretch out his hand against the countries, and the land of Egypt shall not escape. 43 He shall have power over the treasures of gold and silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt; also the Libyans and Ethiopians shall follow at his heels. 44 But news from the east and the north shall trouble him; therefore he shall go out with great fury to destroy and annihilate many. 45 And he shall plant the tents of his palace between the seas and the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and no one will help him.
This scripture from Daniel 11 indicates that the King of the North receives troubling news from the north and east. Given that virtually all prophecy is centered around Jerusalem and the Antichrist sets up his headquarters there it would make sense to look North East of Jerusalem for an answer. Here we find the land bridge of Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan between the Black sea and the Caspian sea.
The Chinese would have serious problems trying to mobilize such an enormous army through the Himalayan passes in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. They would also face formidable hostile opposition passing through Afghanistan and Iran. Whereas the more northerly route through Kazakhstan would be an easier journey and less well defended. This route would give the Chinese two options to close on Jerusalem, south of the Caspian sea which leads back to hostile Iran or north to the Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan land bridge.
Which ever route the Chinese took they would still face the natural barrier of the Euphrates river running from Turkey, through Syria and Iraq to the Persian gulf. This natural barrier is removed when the 6th bowl of wrath is poured out.
The mention of the angels at the Euphrates, Revelation 9:14, is an allusion to the sixth bowl of wrath which causes the river to dry up to allow all the kings of the earth to gather together at Armageddon for the final human battle against YHWH.
Based on this evidence, I believe that this sixth trumpet plague is a human war between China against the beast power who has established his headquarters in Jerusalem which results in the death of 1/3 of humanity.
